1:3. అలా చెప్పి రాజు సేవకులు ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజ్యమంతా ఒక చిన్నదాని కొరకు వెదక నారంభించారు. రాజుకు వెచ్చదనాన్ని ఇవ్వగలిగే రూపం, యవ్వనం ఉన్న స్త్రీ కొరకు వారు వెదకసాగారు. చివరకు అబీషగు అనబడే షూనేమీయురాలిని చూచి, ఆమెను రాజు వద్దకు తీసుకొని వచ్చారు.
